Q&A with Warwick Davis

Share

  • Q

Thanks for joining us today! What’s your favorite part about playing a fictional version of yourself?

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

It's a pleasure to be here chatting on-line once again. I really nejoy playing the fictional Warwick as he gets to say and do things I wouldn't dream of. It's quite liberating.

  • Q

Would you ever consider directing or producing? #HBOCollege #vandy

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

I have directed theatre and am about to launch The Reduced Height Acting Company in the UK. I have also just written, directed, produced, edited and starred in a series for my YouTube channel, The Multiverse. The series is called 'Dwarves Assemble' and will begin in a month or so on that channel.

  • Q

Who have been some of your favorite actors to work with? #HBOCollege #vandy

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

    Michael Gambon, Val Kilmer.

  • Q

What was it like to work with Ricky Gervais? #HBOCollege #GMU

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

Ricky is a very talented individual. He's so smart and very funny. He has the attention span of a 4yr old sometimes though.

  • Q

Before acting in the Harry Potter series, did you read the books? #HBOCollege #vandy

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

I read the first book the night before my first audition for Prof Flitwick. My favourite book is 'Azkaban'.

  • Q

How did you decide to pursue a career in acting? #HBOcollege #vandy

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

I didn't. My grandmother heard a radio commercial that was seeking people for Star Wars, and the rest is history.

  • Q

Was it difficult to come up with an alternate version of yourself? #HBOCollege #GMU

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

No. I treated him just like any other character I have played. Once you know the character, it's very easy to slip in and out of the character.

  • Q

When you were offered to play a lead role, Willow, did you expect to find the role daunting or just exciting?

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

At 17, I wasn't daunted by the role, just thrilled to be doing it, especially the action stuff.

  • Q

In your opinion, what do you think is the greatest television series ever? Same question for greatest film. Thanks, Warwick!

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

Any series with me in... same answer for film! (That's what the 'LTS' Warwick would say)

  • Q

What other kinds of hobbies do you have? #FSU #HBOCollege

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

I don't really have any time for hobbies, in fact, my hobbies often become my work. For example, I started film-making when I was 11 and it has now become something I do almost every day.

  • Q

Of all the roles that you have had, which is your absolute favorite and why? #FSU #HBOCollege

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

I can honestly say I have enjoyed all the roles I have played, and I have a fondness for all my characters. As for a favourite, I think it would be 'Wicket' as that is the character that i owe my career to.

  • Q

Hey Warwick, do you have any fun stories from filming that you can share with us?

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

Every day on 'Life's Too Short' is fun, hard work, but fun. Ricky and Stephen make it such a pleasure. The scripts are a gift to an actor and the supporting cast are all amazing. It's a dream job, in fact.

  • Q

What's the worst audition you've ever been on?

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

The ones I didn't get. It's funny, you never seem to get the roles you are desperate for. I think they can sense your desperation. Now I just try and convince myself I don't really want the part, so I don't come across as desperate!

  • Q

Who do you look up to for inspiration in your career? #HBOCollege #vandy

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

I look up to people who work hard for their success. I am a firm believer in the ethos that hard work brings rewards. I respect anyone who gives things a go, even if they don't succeed, the fact that they tried is what counts. If you don't try something, you'd never know if could have succeeded at it or not.

  • Q

What are your favorite TV series at the moment?

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

I don't get much time to watch TV. All of my viewing is time-shifted. I watch a lot of old comedy series. 'Curb' is up there in my top list. I'd love to have done a guest appearance with Larry. Imagine the faux-pas he'd have come out with around me!

  • Q

Which cast member or person have you enjoy working with and why?

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

I have been very fortunate to work with many great actors and fortunately, none of them have had over-inflated egos. I enjoyed Karl Pilkington's company as we travelled half-way round the world. He's a very funny guy who says it how it is. I actually found myself thinking, actually he's right about that, but I'd never let him know that!

  • Q

Hello Warwick, how much of a dreamer and fairytale fan are you really? And what is your favourite story/book of that type?

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

I like fairy-tales - the darker, the better. My preferred reading tends to be factual though.

  • Q

How did you decide that you wanted to become an actor? What were your greatest challenges?

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

Each job I do, I have to overcome challenges. Convincing, director and producers that I could do the role used to be hard, but since shows like 'Life's Too Short' I have gained so much respect from within the industry, these things are no longer an issue.

  • Q

That’s all the time we have for today’s Q&A. Is there anything else that you’d like to say to your fans before we go?

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

Thanks for all of your questions. Please tune into the 'Life's Too Short' Special on 5th and tell all your friends. Thanks to HBO for all your support for the show too. It is hailed as a 'finale', but I see no reason why we couldn't drop in on warwick every couple of ears to see hows he's doing. Cheers!

  • Q

What was it like reuniting with your Willow co-star, Val Kilmer?

    Share

    A
    Warwick Davis says:

Val's first day on the 'Life's Too Short' special was brilliant. It had been 25 years since we did 'Willow' together, but we just picked up right where we left off. He is a great actor and fun to be around. Val was scheduled to shoot with us for 3 days, but he just came to hang out for a fourth!
