    Do you feel that your son can accomplish the similar achievements in the ring that u did?

    I would never like to put the burden on him. I think what he's doing, I'm very proud of his accomplishments and anything he can do in the ring.

    How you were able to cope with the pressure since when you became first time a world champion (super featherweight)?

    It was a dream for me to become a world champion. I never felt the pressure and I was just proud to represent my country as a world champion.

    Did you receive continued criticism after your first fight with Meldrick Taylor which prompted you to eventually fight him again?

    I think I knocked him out, I won the fight. I didn't care what the critics said and got the opportunity to fight him again.

    Why was sparring your most important part of training?

    It gives you timing when you get in front of a real guy throwing punches in front of you. It's like a rehearsal preparing you for the punches of a real opponent.

    What were your favorite sport(s) movie(s) that inspired you to become a boxer?

    I watch a lot of TV boxing and I had brothers that were fights so that's why I got involved in it.

    Aside from your son, what fighter do you think is the best in all of boxing?

    I think it's Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao who are the best fighters for me right now.

    How did growing up and living in an environment like Culiacan, Sinaloa affect you through your career?

    I came from a very poor environment, I had to sell newspapers, wash cars whatever I could do to get money for my family.

    How old were you when you started boxing?

    I put on the gloves when I was 15 year old with my brothers. The first time I actually sparred with anyone was a woman and she beat the hell out of me!

    You were unbeaten for a long time, you have had already a legend status, enough money probably, why you kept fighting?

    There comes a time in your career when you get tired of boxing you don't train as well as you should. That's where the problems come, I was doing the wrong things and wasn't prepared in the ring. That's when you start losing. There was a time when I think I lost respect for myself, the fans and boxing and I wasn't doing what I needed to do. I was so stupid I even went in the ring with De La Hoya when I wasn't supposed to fight him even though I was cut!

    What made you keep going for all this time? What was/is your source of inspiration?

    My family needed money and I saw the sport as a means and ways. To me it was making money, I loved fighting. I never looked at my career thinking it was great or bad, I just loved fighting and used it for what I needed to do.

    I think the Peter Manfredo fight and the Andy Lee fight showed us all what he's capable of when he's at his best.

    What inspired you to become a boxer?

    I became a boxer out of necessity. I need a way to help my family and I found boxing to be a good way to help them out.

    What do you think your greatest achievement in the ring is?

    Becoming a world champion for the first time was one of the most memorable moments in my life.
