Q&A with Maisie Williams

Share

  • Q

I love your acting of Arya Stark! How much time did you practice sword fighting for your role?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

The first season I did a couple of training sessions with the stunt team and then for this season I didn't have as much for anything but a couple of sessions and practicing in between takes!

  • Q

Dragons or Direwolves which one would you prefer if you had a choice?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

The thing is with the wolves, their was previous real wolves we worked with so we could interact with something but because I already did wolves, I would like to do dragons because it would be cool to interact with something new. The transition would be different.

  • Q

Which was your favourite Arya’s scene so far?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

My favorite scene to watch with Arya in was Ned's beheading. My favorite scene to actually act in were the scenes with Charles Dance as Tywin. Reading them on the paper I was nervous to be working with Charles because I've seen him act and never met him but coming into shooting he was such a nice good and enjoyed the scenes very much!

  • Q

If you could pick ANYWHERE in Westeros to live in real life, where would it be?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I'd like to live somewhere warm, but if you're not the queen or part of the royal family, life seems rough in the warmer places...somewhere warm or nice and not in the slums.

  • Q

What was it like working with Rory McCann this season? What do you think of Arya's relationship with the Hound?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I think the relationship with Arya and the Hound really progresses throughout the season. She's always been in awe of him and now she's in this tricky relationship because she's always fighting him. She knows he's a good person to be with because he has all the strengths where people think she's weak. They're a good kind of pair. Rory is a really nice guy. I've worked with him previously and it was really really good!

  • Q

what is your favorite game of thrones house?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I think the Lannisters are great because they're so complex. They're all smart and have very witty anecdotes for everything. They're mean so that's not so great but everyone has their strengths and weaknesses...the Lannisters are pretty cool!

  • Q

Do you think Arya will meet Jon again?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I hope so. I don't really see Kit much anymore...it would be nice to have scenes with him! As a story it would be better if they didn't ever meet again. If they saw each other again it would be so cliche but I don't really know what's going to happen!

  • Q

Of the characters Arya wants to kill - Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, The Hound - who do you think she wants to kill the most?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

Cersei I think because although Joffrey caused all of this she knows Cersei is behind it. She knows Cersei would have made the same decisions as him.

  • Q

Was it hard to learn to fence left handed? because arya is left handed but aou aren´t

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

When I first started I thought it was going to be great! It was very hard and a lot of the time the choreography was made up with me using my right hand and then they had to change it because they realized I had to be using my left hand instead! Once you do it once you have to keep doing it because we keep getting more seasons and stuff. It's great fun so I don't mind!

  • Q

You portray a character whose journey is constantly changing. What have you learned from working with new actors every season?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I've learned so much from people because I was so new coming into this. I kind of felt a step behind but from watching other people I learned a lot. Everyone has their different styles and you just watch what you like and learn your own way. I'm so thankful to be working with such fantastic actors. I have all this experience now and I'm so young. It's been really great and I hope it continues.

  • Q

Do your friends or classmates at school treat you differently because you're a star from GOT now?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

Some people do. Some people I think I think feel awkward around me but I find it kind of strange because I feel like the same person. Lots of people have been the same and very normal about it. When I come home I'm just Maisie and everywhere I go I'm just Maisie! I can understand how it can be strange for other people meeting me and stuff.

  • Q

Who do you think deserve most the iron throne?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

My answer to this question always changes! I don't know really! My opinion changes all the time. I think Dany deserves the throne because she kind of plays fair and the Targaryens had it before the Lannisters. I'm glad I didn't have to make the decision because I really don't know!

  • Q

Do you think that Arya got a little crush on Gendry ? (I read the books, you are doing a really great job in this role!)

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

Yeah I think so. A lot of people do so she's only human!

  • Q

What is the weirdest and what is the best thing a fan has given you?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I get a lot of fan mail and stuff and usually it's for me to sign stuff. Recently someone sent me a piece of paper and they wanted me to draw on it so they can make it into a button! I get cute little things and lovely messages...I never got anything weird. I think Ed Sheeran got a piece of someone's hair in their cake...nothing weird like that!

  • Q

Who are the funniest person on the cast?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I don't spend enough time with everyone to say who's the funniest but I heard Coneleth Hill makes everyone crack up all the time! It would be interesting to do scenes with him. For people who I worked with...Joe and Ben are hilarious and Philip McGinly is a really funny guy too! They make jokes and I couldn't concentrate and I got in trouble for it...but I had a good time!

  • Q

Hey Maisie, can we expect another song from you, Sophie and Isaac for the season 3 DVD and Blu-Ray? It's become a tradition.

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

Yeah! The thing is that if we go again we'll have to try and top it and I don't know what we'd do. I really don't know what to do and I can't give you any hints right now. It was super embarrassing both times! It's great fun too though and it's like our inner child coming out!

  • Q

My cat is named Arya because she survived surgery. Where does Arya find her strength and what is like to portray her?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I think Arya finds her strength in home. She's very far from home and is trying to get there but she doesn't know her family is looking for her. She finds her strength in the sentiment "when she finds home everything will be ok."

  • Q

When you heard "All men must die" - - What came to your mind?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I was shocked completely....I think I questioned what it mean and I was like wow that was sinister...even for Arya! I remember thinking this is a world Arya isn't familiar with. It was kind of dark and it gave me chills.

  • Q

Do you have any acting/dancing gigs coming up?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I'm about to go onto a film called "We Are Monsters." I'm really looking forward to it and it's a fantastic script and cast. Dancing-wise we're going to do our trilogy exam in college and it consists of pieces we need to put together...monologues and stuff like that. It's been a really good year so far and I'm excited for the rest of it. There's a lot of good things coming up.

  • Q

What did you parents think when you were going to be starring in a HBO series? #FSU #HBOCollege

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I'm going to be completely honest but we didn't know what HBO was and had to Google it. We didn't watch TV and I never did acting before! We then realized how big the shows are and how big this could be. They were really proud of me and I was getting to that age where you realize you can't really do everything you want to do....you have to make your own destiny to suit your lifestyle. When Game of Thrones came up I never looked back and it's opened so many doors for me. I'm so happy with my life now and my family has been supportive and been with me every step of the way. It's going really, really well!

  • Q

Maisie, thanks. In the current chapters, we see Arya as a very mature and clever girl, do you think that we all have some Arya qualities within ourselves?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

Yes I do, Arya is just coping as best she can which is what I think anyone would do in her situation.

  • Q

We loved the friendship between Arya and Jaqen, and would really like to see Jaqen's character again. Do you think he'll return?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I hope so, it was great working with Tom and I would like to think I would work with him again.

  • Q

Do you have any favourite actor/actress that serve as an inspiration for your own work as an actor?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

    Olivia Colman

  • Q

Does it sometimes bother you that people refer to you as Arya instead of Maisie?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

A little bit but it goes with the territory!

  • Q

How challenging was for you to pretend to be a boy after Ned Stark’s death?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

Not very, it was really the hair, make up and costume departments that did most of the hard work!

  • Q

Apart from Arya, which GoT character would you like to portray? :)

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I would love to play Dany, it would be cool to have the dragons!

  • Q

What kind of things you think you would have in common with Arya, living in G. R R Martin world?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I guess I'm a bit of a tomboy and can be quite resourceful.

  • Q

When you're not shooting with the casts, do you hang out with them in your free time?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

Yeah we hang out in Belfast going for meals in the evenings and I meet up with Isaac and Sophie outside the shooting season.

  • Q

That's all the time we have for today's Q&A, Maisie is there anything else you'd like to say to your fans before we go?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I hope you guys all enjoyed the rest of this season and I hope you enjoy Season 4 too! I'm really excited to see what happens next! Thanks for asking your questions and I'm sorry I couldn't answer all of them!
