Q&A with Maisie Williams

Share

  • Q

How much fun are the fight scenes together with "The Hound" and how well do you guys get along off-screen?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

For the fight scenes so far in Season 4, Arya hasn't a lot to do so it's fun to watch someone kick ass while you sit back and relax. It's great to work with Rory, he's a really nice person and it's great to work with someone I get along so well with.

  • Q

If you could make three wishes, what would you choose?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

From Maisie's perspective, If i could have three wishes I'd wish for happiness for me, my family and everyone I care about, I'd solve world hunger and make gay marriage legal everywhere.

  • Q

Do you think Arya will get her revenge?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

Hell yea! She's realizing very quickly that just because you're a good person doesn't mean you're going to survive. She's proud of the actions that she takes.

  • Q

What does your family think of the show and Arya?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I guess we've got a weird perspective of the show because we were there from Day 1 and a majority of the world hadn't heard about it. It's hard to say if they would like Arya if I didn't play her. They have a very biased perspective because I live and breath her and talk about her constantly! I think they think she's pretty cool and I think she's pretty cool. The cool thing is that I get to pretend to be that badass! She has all these amazing lines to say and I can pretend to be that cool. It's amazing and I'd never ask for anything else.

  • Q

Which do you think was the most epic Arya moment?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I still quite like the most recent episode. Killing Polliver was pretty cool and I liked that so far. I think Episode 3 of this year when she's talking to the farmer and the Hound and she's lying about the Hound being her father and all that. It's a big deal because Arya can pretend and for her that was a pretty cool moment where she can actually lie to everyone and still come out on top.

  • Q

Imagine that for one day you could live in Westeros, where would you go?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I'd go to King's Landing, even though it's not safe it's warm. I feel like I'm cold-blooded and I need the warmth to wake me up in the morning.

  • Q

What is the most significant experience you've taken away from working on the set of Game of Thrones so far?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I think I just matured. That's the biggest thing I could have taken away from the whole thing. I've had a fast track to who I want to be. I know all of my friends are struggling to what to pick in college and I've been given a fast pass to kick start my future. To have an ambition and a goal at this stage is amazing. I can't ask for anything else, I'm so grateful. What I can take away is that I've been given the chance to do what I love. I've got my foot in the door and I'm not going to back down on doing what I love.

  • Q

What do we say to death?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

    Not today!

  • Q

What are some flaws or redeeming qualities you think you an Arya have in common?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

We both like chicken! We both see more to life than living up to other people's expectations. I don't have to be making a lot of money or living in a fancy house. If I'm happy then I'll do whatever, so that's similar to Arya. We both have family as our main goal in life. My family are the epicenter of all my decisions.

  • Q

    what's your favorite breakfast food?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

This is so difficult. So I'm a dancer and when I'm dancing I need a big breakfast with carbs, so I have toast and cereal. At the moment I'm not dancing and trying to eat healthily (fruit, yogurt and muesli)...I'd rather have bacon! I believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, if you don't have a good breakfast then what are you going to do with the rest of your day. I get scared when I don't have a good breakfast! If you're going to take anything else away from this Q&A, it's that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

  • Q

What is the costume process like during filming? Is Arya's clothing comfortable?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I wouldn't say any costumes on GoT are comfortable (and that's coming from the character with the most comfortable outfit). If I'm not comfortable, I can't imagine what Cersei feels like! The costume process because we shoot in Belfast, I wear two layers of thermals, skin colored socks, my trousers, my costume top and my jacket thing and my belt and sword and I have a massive neck rag. The neck rag sounds like a scarf but every morning I have to get stitched into it. And then I wear boots...Arya Stark is a trendsetter!

  • Q

Besides Game of Thrones are there any upcoming movie projects like Corvidae you will be taking part in?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

Yes so there's a couple things I've already done, Corvidae, Gold, Heat Stroke. During GoT last year, I shot The Falling which will be out soon that I'm extremely excited about. You guys should keep your eyes out for that, fantastic director, cast and crew. I'm excited! I hope you all like it as much as I did.

  • Q

Do you take some fencing lessons for handling your Needle?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

If I have up and coming fight scenes, I work with the stunt guys who mainly teach me a routine. In the past I've done fencing on my own accord because I want to get used to looking natural with a sword. It seems like Arya did a lot more training than you see on screen and obviously Maisie hasn't! I'm always trying to get better, but who's complaining about getting a free gym membership. The perks of being on Game of Thrones!

  • Q

What's the funniest thing a fan ever said to you?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I met this girl the other night while I was at a party and she said "OMG you look so familiar" and told me "You look just like Arya." I told her I played Arya Stark and she freaked out and she kept coming up to me saying "I just can't believe it's you!" and repeating herself. It was really sweet and the most hilarious thing I ever witnessed. Bless her, she was lovely!

  • Q

If Arya was living in the current time being what would she be?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I'm going to put it in "Mean Girl" terms. So you know there's always that girl who looks perfect and has perfect hair and makeup stays on all day and wears a perfect handbag and has her nails done and they would never chip...Arya would not be that girl. She'd be the polar opposite and love it. she would be the ruler of the underdogs. She wouldn't be popular and people would hate her but she wouldn't care. That's what I like about her, she wouldn't care. "Do what you want and what you stand for," that's 2014 Arya.

  • Q

That's all the time we have for today! Maisie, is there anything else you'd like to say to your fans?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

Thank you so much for all of your questions, I'm sorry that I couldn't answer more. I hope you enjoy the rest of the season. You will not be disappointed for what's in store for Arya Stark.

  • Q

If you had to choose a superpower, what would it be?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I'm a massive Spiderman fan. If I could shoot webs out of my hand there would be so many uses for it! I would be a female spiderman, that would be my life's ambition.

  • Q

In your opinion, who would make the best King or Queen and who would be their Hand?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I've always had in the back of my mind that Sansa would be a fantastic Queen and Arya would be her hand. In Maisie's head that would be ideal. I just want to work with Sophie again. I miss her!

  • Q

how much chicken can you and the hound eat put together?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

It would be in the thousands somewhere. I am such a chicken fiend! At the end of the day they had so many chicken legs we didn't end up eating so I took them home with me. I was like it's free chicken guys, what's wrong with you! I didn't have to buy any dinner that night, I was beaming from ear to ear when I walked back to the car with the box full of chicken. I'm really happy, I'm glad that the world liked that scene.

  • Q

    Do you like pizza?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

Always! Like everyday of the week. Pizza is a pretty generic meal, no matter what you get you'll always have a great slice.

  • Q

    What is your favourite Band/Artist?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

I love Shy Effect and The XX. The music scene where I live is massive at the moment and I'm influenced by local stuff. I listen to a lot of different things. I don't necessarily like it all but I give everything a change. My iTunes library is everything from Snoop Dogg to Beyonce to One Direction. It depends what mood I'm in a I guess!

  • Q

What is the one thing you most miss when not filming?

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

It's weird because when I'm shooting it's like I'm in another world. I go to set, I go to horseriding, hair and makeup...I look on Facebook and it's so alien looking at friend's posts from back home. When I'm home again I miss that bubble I'm in when I'm shooting. It's such a well-oiled machine and you're sucked up into it in GoT world and then you're dropped out of it 6 months later. I'm just being constantly hit with a routine and when you have to make decisions it's hard! I guess I miss the structure.

  • Q

Thanks for joining us today Maisie! How does it feel to be reunited with "Needle?"

    Share

    A
    Maisie Williams says:

It feels great! I'm really glad that Arya is back on track and people are taking her more seriously in the world of GoT.
